About Visas

Please choose the course and length of stay that match your study goals. The required visa and admission procedures differ depending on the length of your studies.

Student Visa [YAMASA Institute / Accredited Course (planned)]

If you wish to study for six months or longer and cannot stay in Japan on a short-term stay visa (or another type of visa), you need to apply for a student visa. At YAMASA Institute, from October 2026, only the 2-Year Japanese Language and Culture Course will be eligible for student visa application. If you would like to obtain a student visa for another period, please contact us. We will use your inquiry as a reference for future course planning.

There are four admission periods each year: April, July, October, and January.
Applications are generally accepted about eight months in advance. The application period differs depending on the admission term.
Please check the explanation and application information for the YAMASA student visa below before proceeding with your application. After you apply and YAMASA completes the necessary procedures, YAMASA will apply for the visa on your behalf.

Please check the visa application procedure on the website below.

Short-Term Stay Visa

Students taking a short-term course may enter Japan on a short-term stay visa (tourist visa).
The length of a short-term stay visa differs depending on nationality, but it is usually three months or 90 days.
People of most nationalities do not need to apply for a short-term stay visa before coming to Japan. However, depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for one in advance. Please contact the nearest Japanese embassy and confirm what is required for your nationality to obtain a short-term stay visa.
This will help you make sure that your planned study abroad arrangements meet the necessary conditions.

*Applications for AIJP under the former certified school standard are accepted until around May 2026.
Applications for the short-term course under the accredited school system are scheduled to begin around June 2026.

Online Courses

We also offer online courses that you can take anytime and anywhere, without being restricted by time or location. YAMASA Institute has produced more than 8,000 graduates to date, including not only international students but also travelers, company employees, and residents in Japan. In response to requests such as “I want to continue taking YAMASA lessons even after finishing my course” and “I heard good things about YAMASA from my friends and want to study there too,” we launched the online-only program “YAMASA Online.”
