School Information

Overview

The Hattori Public Foundation, established in 1919 by Tarokichi Hattori, has carried out charitable activities related to education in a wide range of fields. The foundation’s core mission is to contribute as much as possible to the promotion of education and culture and to help create a brighter future. Today, it actively promotes education and culture for a wide range of people, from early childhood education to Japanese language education and cultural courses. In 1996, the Hattori Public Foundation newly established the Educational Corporation Hattori Gakuen, under which educational institutions such as Megumi Kindergarten and the YAMASA Institute operate.

The YAMASA Institute of the Educational Corporation Hattori Gakuen works hard every day to help Japanese language learners of all nationalities improve their Japanese ability. Our deep knowledge and academic achievements in this field are the result of these efforts. Students from a wide variety of countries enroll at our institute, and its quality and achievements have made it one of the most notable Japanese language schools among many.

暮らしの学校ロゴ Hattori Public Interest Foundation – Kurashi no Gakkō

“Kurashi no Gakkō” is a community cultural center. We offer over 300 courses in areas such as sports, education, music, hobbies, cooking, parenting, health, and mental well-being. “Kurashi no Gakkō” is located about a 5-minute walk from the YAMASA Institute campus. Students are also welcome to join the courses, so please feel free to participate. (Student discounts are available.)

 Hattori Gakuen Educational Foundation – Megumi Kindergarten

“Megumi Kindergarten” is one of the oldest kindergartens in Okazaki City, established over 80 years ago. It promotes educational activities that nurture children’s imagination, intuition, cooperation, and compassion, and is highly regarded in the local community.

めぐみワンダーランドロゴ Hattori Gakuen Educational Foundation – Megumi Wonderland Nursery Room

Megumi Wonderland Nursery Room is a childcare facility that accepts children aged one year and older. Qualified childcare staff take care of the children while ensuring their safety and well-being. If you have a young child, you can have them looked after here while you attend classes at YAMASA.

This organization specializes in language training for companies and public institutions. It was established in 2015 as a separate entity from a division of our institute. Operating independently, it provides language training tailored to the specific needs of companies and public organizations.

FM EGAO is a radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day in the Nishi-Mikawa area. It airs local news, weather forecasts, and music programs.

服部工業ロゴ Hattori Kogyo Co., Ltd.

Founded in 1886, this company has over 130 years of history and manufactures and sells commercial kitchen equipment. It is the core company of the Hattori Group. In the past, it held the top market share in Japan for large cooking kettles, and today it handles a wide range of kitchen equipment, including rice cookers and steam convection ovens.

アーテックロゴ Artec Co., Ltd.

This company sells equipment and supplies required for large-scale kitchens in hospitals, schools, and factories, and also provides operational support and consulting services related to cooking and cleaning. It also operates the Okazaki Cook-Chill Center under its umbrella, where it produces lunches for local schools and kindergartens and sells bento meals with a focus on safety and nutritional value. These lunches can also be enjoyed at the nearby “Kurumi Fine Food Café.” Bento meals are also sold at the school during long-term courses such as AIJP.

History

February 1919 – Hattori Tarokichi established the Hattori Public Interest Foundation in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture
March 1924 – Began operating a private industrial school (Okazaki Technical High School) in Okazaki City
May 1933 – Established Okazaki Private Kindergarten
March 1938 – Donated Okazaki Technical High School to Aichi Prefecture; the school restarted as Aichi Prefectural Technical High School in Okazaki City
April 1963 – Okazaki Private Kindergarten was renamed “Megumi Kindergarten”
March 1991 – Established the Japanese language school, YAMASA Institute
November 1991 – YAMASA Institute received approval from the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education and was officially registered with Japan’s Immigration Bureau as a Japanese language school
April 1992 – YAMASA Institute officially began Japanese language education
October 1998 – The Japanese language training course was renamed the “Aichi Center for Japanese Language Learners”
April 2004 – A Japanese language teacher training course was launched at YAMASA Institute, and the Japanese language training course was started
October 2006 – The cultural center “Kurashi no Gakkō” was opened
April 2010 – The parent organization of YAMASA Institute was transferred from the Hattori Public Interest Foundation to the Hattori Gakuen Educational Foundation
The Hattori Gakuen Educational Foundation was authorized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
January 2012 – Opened the Toyota Campus of YAMASA Institute in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture (merged into the Okazaki Main Campus in 2014)

YAMASA protects personal information in a prudent way and does not disclose any personal information to a third party except in the following circumstances.
