One Day at YAMASA

A Day in the Life of a Student

Switzerland

Monica (Switzerland)

SILAC_Conversation-Focused Short-Term Course / AIJP_Comprehensive Japanese Course

Enrollment: April 2013
Purpose of study: I want to improve my Japanese level so that I can talk more with my friends.
Goal: I want to take the JLPT and aim higher (currently passed N4).

With small class sizes, you can practice natural expressions that are not found in ordinary textbooks.

I studied at SILAC in 2010, 2012, and 2013, and now I am studying in AIJP.
After finishing in 2010, I returned to Switzerland and continued studying,
but I wanted to come back to Japan and improve more at YAMASA.

At SILAC, I practiced conversation a lot.
There are also classes where the teacher chooses a topic based on the students’ interests,
and then everyone talks about it.
The classes were not large, so I had many chances to speak, which was very good.
In class, I was able to practice natural ways of speaking that do not appear in ordinary textbooks.
When I spoke with Japanese people, I could immediately understand things I had learned at SILAC
because they were actually using them in real life.
My classmates also shared their opinions a lot.

In my class, there were people from many different countries,
such as Taiwan, the United States, France, Italy, and Sweden.

After studying at SILAC, I am now studying in AIJP,
and here too I can study grammar, writing, and reading comprehension, which is very helpful.

Let me introduce a day in my life

8:30 Arrive at school

It takes 12 minutes on foot
from the dormitory to YAMASA.

9:00 Class

Morning classes begin.

During breaks, I chat with classmates from many different countries. Our common language is Japanese.

12:00 Lunch break

During lunch break, I eat lunch at a nearby place called “Kamato Kurumi.”
I love it because I can enjoy healthy food while looking out at the beautiful garden in a quiet atmosphere.

15:00 Self-study

I review what I learned after class.
