Okazaki City:

The Whiskey Shrine

The Whiskey Shrine
Behind the whiskey bar
At Zig Zag, we have a whiskey shrine. We take spirits and spirituality seriously here, particularly those spirits imported from Ireland and Scotland.

Our kamidama is located in the Irish section of the whiskey corner, a section of the main room with a newly completed counter set aside for our growing whiskey collection. At the moment we try to keep 1 bottle of fine shrine sake inside the main part of the kamidama, with mini-bottles of single malts in the subsidiary shrines. Although based on a shinto design, the shrine is very much non-denominational, so we accept all denominations (dollars, euros, pounds.... and maybe credit cards in the near future).

The Whiskey Shrine
The altar and sacred booze
In the absence of supporting gods, we have enshrined a Gilbert rugby ball and a Sherrin Australian Rules football. Due to the idiosyncrasies of the owner, those handling the enshrined footballs are requested to vocally support the Swans (aka "the bloods"), Waratahs & Wallabies. Humour him. When watching AFL or rugby games on the big screen these tend to wander from the shrine and fly around the room a bit - not quite in the style of a Japanese mikoshi shrine but with similar impact on the participants.

The whiskey selection is being added to each week, and requests are welcome. If you are not sure of what whiskey you like (yet) just ask.

The wine cellar is underneath, so whether you are a whiskey aficionado, enjoy rugby, AFL or Gaelic football, or just want to kick back with a glass of Shiraz, a lovely Cuban cigar or cigarillo, and listen to a bit of jazz - this is your place. Let us pray.
