Okazaki City:

Smoking Policy

Zig Zag isn't in Ireland, but we have similar policies (though not as stringent) regarding smoking. Partly this is because the majority of our customers do not smoke, partly because it is a food safety and an occupational health & safety issue.

We realise that many of our customers would like to enjoy a smoke while having a drink and relaxing, however please remember that Zig Zag is also a workplace. In order to protect our staff, smoking is currently not permitted at the counter bar (which is also a food preparation area - hence the food safety requirements). Your understanding is appreciated.

Current Smoking Rules:

  • No smoking at counter, or in the vicinity of the counter due to food preparation and role of staff.
  • No smoking indoors during lunch or cafe (up to 5:00pm) operations.
  • Smoking is permitted in main room after 5:00pm, or during rainy weather (ask the manager)
  • During "all nighters", smoking of fine cigars or pipe tobacco at the counter is OK after 6am, but please also order breakfast.

it seems to be a minor one." - W.C. Heuper, National Cancer Institute, 1954
