25 things you didn't need to know about Declan Murphy, narcissist, and probably won't need or want to.
01. Irish citizen, grew up in Parramatta in Australia. Own some flannelette shirts. Long term Japan resident. Have an Aussie passport too (somewhere).
02. Born October 4th 1969. Apparently the year of the monkey & a birthdate that makes me a "Libra". Don't know what that means. Can never remember my blood group.
03. Live in Okazaki in Aichi Prefecture. Previously in Chiryuu,
Osaka, Gunma,
Hokkaido &
Tokyo.
04. Came to Japan in 1992. Current visa category is toushi/keiei.
05. Full name is Declan Francis Murphy (Déaglán Proinsias Ó Murchú).
1 older brother. 2 younger sisters. Perfect parents.
06. I'm no pro, but I like taking photographs and shooting video. Especially if I'm being paid for it.
07. Used to ride horses reasonably well, but I've never been a
jockey in Hong Kong, nor do I have any cunning plans to be.
08. Beautiful fingers & hands (apparently), but I've been told repeatedly that my seimeisen is disturbingly short.
09. Interested in archaeology, Japanese history & comparative-historical linguistics. I'm not exactly Indiana Jones....
10. I've become increasingly capable of making ugly pottery in
Seto and
Tokoname.
11. Right handed opener. Competent offies, incompetent leggies. Right arm medium swing bowler moving it both
ways... up & down

12. I try to play the guitar, mandolin, tin whistle, piano and bodhran. I do so less competently than any known human in Okazaki.
13. Speak/Read/Write English & Japanese only. A little bit of Gaeilge & Mandarin. Would one day like to learn Japanese sign language & Indonesian.
14. I have a tendency to snore. Apparently, loudly. You may need earplugs. If you wish to sleep in close proximity in ski lodges or elsewhere, you have been warned.
15. Buying me a drink? Mine is a

16. Economics, industrial engineering, biz admin, Japanese language. Belatedly burrowing my way through comp sci. Not much progress.
17. Tennis, wintersports, kayaking,
cricket & hiking.
Can't explain why, but in 1993 bicycled from Melbourne to Perth. Great memories.
18. Bibliophile! Can't live without my books. Heaven on a stick would be owning a bookshop/cafe/gallery/jazz-bar thingee.
19. Have visited 43 countries so far. Best places: Liechtenstein, Macao, Newgrange,
Sapporo Snow Festival. Next?
20. I'm a homebrewer - usually attempting to brew ales & stouts. I dream of learning how to make liqueur chocolates.
21. Height 176cm. Slim build. Blood type A (see "2"). Blue eyes. Brown hair. Permanent (greying) trimmed beard. Single, never married.
22. I'm not exactly what you could describe as a "morning person". As far as I'm concerned, 10am is simply too damn early.
23. My thumb is not green, but my
gardening misadventures are proving to be fun.
24. To live is to eat. I love cooking, nearly as much as eating, though lately I've done a lot more of the latter
than the former.
25. Have been forced to climb Mount Fuji 8 times, twice with a hurley,
but only once with a laptop computer.
