Jet Programme Support Site

This website is aimed at assisting participants in the JET Programme. The site is funded by the Hattori Foundation, a non-profit philanthropy established in 1919.

Whether it is information about teaching, mutual support, good holiday destinations or buy/sell - whatever supports a JET in their work placement, lifestyle etc - is welcome. If you are in a small isolated place somewhere, we hope this site may provide some extra peer support and an opportunity to share ideas and experiences.

For new or prospective JETs, the Programmeme Information section should give you a good head start on preparing for life as a JET.

The site includes links to all known JET related pages (both official and unofficial).

Important notice regarding driving licences

The Japanese law regarding International Driving Licences (IDL) has changed since July 2002. People have been getting new IDLs sent to them from their home countries, this is now illegal.

You may only use an IDL for the first 12 months you are in Japan, after this you must get a Japan licence or leave Japan for 3 months. This is regardless of the expiry date on your IDL. If you drive with a IDL after your first 12 months in Japan you are driving unlicenced and will not be covered by insurance.
