Background: Many JET participants initially apply for the Programme in order to improve their Japanese language skills and understanding of Japanese culture. Opportunities to study can be limited though, due to full time work committments, extra-curricular activities, constant exposure to English and simply not being able to access good teachers or study materials. It's surprising how many JETs leave Japan with disappointing improvements in their Japanese. Many Boards of Education are now offering study leave, coupled with the advantage of fortnightly short term Programme (SILAC) starts from April 2000 has resulted in a substantial increase in study opportunities for JETs in their summer break. Combined with the Online Kanji Dictionary and the OCJS, the Hattori Foundation endowment hopes to further increase study opportunities. Discounts Available to confirmed JET participants:
We are flexible about the proof you send, a copy of your initial letter of acceptance or a letter from your Board of Education or school in English or Japanese.
