The Sapporo Betsuin is a shinto shrine on Eki-mae dori, the main street running through Susukino from Sapporo Station to Nakayama Park. It is a subsidiary shrine of the Toyokawa Inari in Aichi Prefecture. Inari shrines are favored in Japan by business people and the various establishments of Susukino pray at the shrine each New Year and at festivals. The ceremonies at the Betsuin are the only part of the Sapporo Snow Festival that have a religious element.
