Mount Komagatake photographed from the Hakodateyama ropeway at nearby Hakodate. 1130 meters (feet) high, Komaga-take is not the largest volcano on Hokkaido but it is impressive. Hot vents from under the mountain provide hot springs with onsen waters and created the Shikabe geyser at the nearby fishing village. The volcano is dormant and the last major eruption in 2000 when ash from the volcano covered nearby areas including Shikabe.
