Japan Discovery - Outline

The Discovery programs consist of 2 stages:

  • Intensive language acquisition, and
  • Travel component.

    a) Intensive Language Acquisition: Participants can study Japanese for 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 weeks. Class sizes are small and the facilities provided in Aoi Hall are excellent. Computer labs, recreational facilities and your teacher's offices are on the same floor. The class formats include...

    • Standard format: 23 conversation based classes per week
    • Seminar format: 15 conversation based classes per week
    • Private Format: 10 or more classes per week - individualized curriculum.

    b) Travel component: Each tour for relatively small groups. In the peak summer season, the maximum size is 18, but the average size is only 7. In the off-seasons, the maximum size is 9, but the average is just 5 students. With Option A you can select 3, 5, 8, 10 or 12 day tours. With Option B 12, 9, 7, 4 or 2 day tours. Option C includes a 12 day tour and Option D is completely flexible. It is also possible to do the tour only. There are also a wide range of weekend tours and activities - Discovery program students receive priority placement for all of these activities and also for some events receive additional discounts.

Discovery program participants can also receive a small discount on their accommodation depending on which option you choose. The program is one package (ie you pay for the tuition and tour together), and pay for the accommodation separately. For more information about discounts check out the Gold Pass.
