Yamasa Villa 3 & 4 Studio Apartments

Yamasa Villa 3 and 4. These 39 studio apartments are the closest to the campus (Only 8 minutes walk, by bicycle only about 5 minutes). The apartments can be rented by any student regardless of the duration of their stay. Each apartment is what is known in Japan as a 'one room mansion'. They can also be shared by 2 students to reduce the costs of housing even further.

Location: As well as being the closest to the campus, the apartments are also close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets and bus-stops. These apartments are also the closest to JR Okazaki Railway Station (on the main line between Tokyo and Osaka and so are the most convenient for getting out of town to see the sights of central Japan.) Description: The apartments are western style with no tatami matting. The floors are of polished wood. The space of each is 21.84 square meters (approximately 236 square feet). Each has its own bathroom with western style toilet and unit shower/bath. They have air-conditioning/heating, a large wardrobe, and a kitchen with a kitchen sink, a saucepan, frying pan and kettle. Yamasa also provides a refrigerator, 2 jet gas range/cooker and electric rice cooker. Please note that utensils are not provided, but can be purchased cheaply at a nearby store. In the main room Yamasa provides a TV, bed, desk, chair, study lamp and bookshelves.

Coin laundry and common areas: There is a coin laundry facility on site (at lower prices than most of the local commercial laundromats); so that students can save more money. There is also an study/recreation room (air-conditioned/heated) that students often use for group study (and just as often as a party venue). There is also a shelter for bicycles located between the two buildings. Free car parking is available.

Telephone and Internet: There is no telephone provided inside the apartment, students will need to obtain a lease or rent a line to get connected - Yamasa will assist you if you need a telephone line installed in your apartment. Most students prefer to use the cheaper option of handheld cellular phones. There is a public telephone (international calling enabled and with data jacks) on site. For internet access, purchasing or renting a PHS card for a wireless connection is usually the cheapest option.

Futons: Futons are not provided, so for bedding please browse through the futons file.

Advantages reported by students: Close to campus and route 248. Independence and privacy - your own bathroom. Convenient to have own kitchen and no need to wait. Quiet at night. Good study environment. Larger amount of personal space per student.

Disadvantages reported by students: Lack of telephone inside room is a problem for short term students as renting cellular phones is relatively expensive compared to the telephone access in the student village. No access to internet via Yamasa's LAN. PHS card access is reasonably fast but not as quick as LAN and much more expensive. Plus you need to pay for an account, whereas the LAN access at the student village and on campus is free. No wheelchair access. No microwave oven on site. For short term students the cost of purchasing plates, cups, chopsticks etc is an additional expense.
