Notes regarding class sizes and program hours

The Yamasa Institute is accredited by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education (APJLE) as required by Japanese law. Our accreditation number is B302. All APJLE accredited schools must maintain a maximum class size of 20 students and a minimum program length of 800 classes per year. By comparison, the Yamasa Institute believes that the maximum suitable class size is 15. Our smaller seminar classes have a maximum class size of only 6 students.

The regulations also state that events such as parties, ceremonies etc can be counted as program hours and ALMOST ALL schools provide only the minimum 800 program hours required by the regulations. The Yamasa Institute is one of the few institutes that only considers actual classes to be program hours. This means that the difference between the length of a program at Yamasa and those of other schools is considerably understated. Many of our programs provide intensity levels exceeding 1000 classes per year. This means that we often provide more than 20% more classes than other schools and usually for similar or lower tuition costs.

As a result, you will learn more at Yamasa than students at other schools. You will get a higher return on your investment. We're more cost effective.
