If you are travelling across 6 times zones or more, then you are likely to suffer some jetlag on arrival. In this case it is best to arrive 2 days early. The free airport pickup service is usually available at Nagoya Airport (only) for the 2 days before your commencement ceremony/placement testing. Please check the list of dates below before booking your flight:

Year 2001:
January 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 23, 24, February 6, 7, 20, 21, March 6, 7, 20, 21, 31 April 1, 2, 3, 4, 17, 18, 29, 30 May 15, 16, 29, 30, June 12, 13, 26, 27, 30, July 1, 2, 10, 11, 24, 25, 30, 31, August 7, 8, 21, 22 September 4, 5, 18, 19, 30, October 1, 2, 3, 16, 17, 30, 31, November 13, 14, 27, 28, 29, December 11, 12, 25, 26

Year 2002:

Arriving on one of the above dates:

If you book a flight to arrive on one of the above dates, and register your flight details with us, then the airport pickup is free. Institute staff will meet you in the lobby of the International Arrivals Hall. Please note that transfer flights such as #JAL53 from Narita will arrive at the International Arrivals Hall. If you are boarding a flight originating in a Japanese regional city or at Tokyo's Haneda airport, then they will meet you at the Domestic terminal. If in doubt, please register your flight details as early as possible so that we have time to confirm your pickup arrangements.

Arriving at other times:

If it is more convenient for you, it is OK to arrive a little earlier or later than the dates listed above - although you should should first contact us well in advance to check accommodation availability. Please also note that if you arrive on days other than those stated above, then the Institute will need to charge you a small fee of 1500 yen for the pickup service. You can pay the fee after you reach Okazaki. (Please note that this fee is well below cost - by comparison the airport bus service from the Airport to Okazaki station is more expensive at 2000 yen. The highway tolls that the Institute staff pay to drive to the airport are 3000 yen return, and that cost does not include parking fees, gasoline/petrol or the faculty member's time - who often will be meeting you in their own time, unpaid and using their own own cars). For this reason please note that we require an absolute minimum of 5 days notice for this service. Please give us at least 1 weeks notice if you will be arriving in Japan on a Sunday or public holiday.

Whenever there are a large number of students arriving simultaneously, the Institute sometimes uses a bus to provide the airport pickup. If so the bus will usually leave the international terminal at 10:30am, 3:30am and 9:30pm - note that this will of course vary depending on the flight schedules of each student and the Institute staff will not permit the bus to leave before everyone has cleared customs and has been accounted for. Also please inform us well in advance if you are carrying an unusually large amount of luggage.

Please ensure that you receive confirmation from us that we have received your flight details.
