Yamasa students inside the tunnel complex dug during World War II in Matsushiro in Nagano Prefecture to serve as the Imperial Headquarters in the event of the evacuation of Tokyo or an invasion of the home islands. Built under great hardship using pressed labour, the tunnels were not completed and were recently opened to the public as a memorial to those (mostly Koreans) who died in the construction. Yamasa will visit the complex again during the January 26-28th weekend study tour - bookings are online or through Student Services.
