This is the dormitory currently with some thirty young students, all sharing the Kitchen, Lunch Room, Laundry Room and Bathrooms.  (Mom, stop frowning: girls are on a separate floor ...)  From what I heard by talking to other classmates, this building was recently constructed and features ISDN lines and internet connections in each room, both of which are lacking in other accommodations.

This fellow came from the Waterloo University in Toronto.  Everyday he studies for 3 hours at night in additional to day time studies, as he has been taking private classes from two separate teachers, as I was told.  I heard about his diligence the first night I arrived; what a pleasure to meet him finally.  (Notice the wide screen TV and piano in the background..)

This lad was from "the Italian side of Switzerland", although I really have no time to figure out how it works.  One night, in the busy communal Kitchen, he was meticulously chopping away the vine ripen tomatoes, which probably cost an arm and a leg as vegetables and fruits are so expensive here.  It turned out he was preparing spaghetti sauce from scratch.  That was then when I was told of his heritage.  Upon hearing it, now I am proud of the fact that my cabinet is stocked with soya sauce only, not salt!

And then there were these two American Chinese students who turned out to be mother and daughter.  What a wonderful idea that the daughter is willing to
have the mother tag along to school oversees, and the mother is willing to learn Japanese from the beginning so that she could be a good companion to her 14 years old daughter.
 

I am constantly amazed at how good
the dormitory students are in cooking.
