During the April 2001 to March 2002 academic year, the program is being offered in two (2) formats. The reason we are using 2 formats so that we can guarantee that no composite level classes will be needed. This ensures faster learning and more challenging classes as your classmates will be of similar level. (1) Standard Format: The standard format is for 24 classes per week, with a maximum class size of 15 students - 5 students less than the maximum class size recommended by the regulating body, the APJLE. (click here for more information on standard format class sizes.) Of the 24 classes, 4 are electives that you can choose in consultation with your academic advisor. Standard format classes start at 9.00am and are 50 minutes long. The 4 core classes finish at 1.30pm from Monday to Friday. The electives are scheduled from 1.40pm to 3.30pm (2 classes) from Mondays to Thursdays. A wide range of electives are scheduled, students can choose 4 classes. If you wish to study additional electives then it is possible to do so provided you meet the entry requirements and pay an additional fee. There are no electives scheduled for Friday afternoons, although there is an optional cultural/activities program available. All of the 7 elementary proficency levels are taught using this standard format. A weekly schedule might look something like this: Click here for sample standard format weekly schedule. (2) Seminar Format: The seminar format is for 19 classes per week, with a maximum class size of 6 students - 14 students less than the maximum class size recommended by the regulating body, the APJLE. (click here for more information on seminar format class sizes.) Seminar format classes start at 9.00am and finish at 11.50pm from Mondays to Fridays. Intermediate classes are usually offered using this format ONLY, though the 24 class per week format is always used whenever there are 7 or more students at the same proficiency level. This is particularly the case during the June - August period (northern hemisphere summer) and December - January period (southern hemisphere summer vacation). Please note that even if you are studying with the Seminar format, for your electives the class size might be more than 6 (but not more than 15 for academic subjects). A weekly schedule might look something like this: Click here for sample seminar format weekly schedule.
