Enrollment status:

At the time of the application, the applicant must be:

1) a student currently enrolled in an academic program at the Yamasa Institute, with a student visa. Minimum attendance rate required is 95% with above average grades.

Japanese language level:

There is no set Japanese language requirement. Obviously your chances of obtaining some form of work study are higher if you can converse in Japanese, however for some occupations it isn't required. Your level of Japanese will already be known to the interviewers.

Academic Record:

As an academic institution the Yamasa Institute's Work Study program does favor applicants with good academic backgrounds. However this program is strictly a matter of supply and demand for the personal skills you possess. Your academic background will not always figure in the assessment of those skills.

Examples of skills required:

Translating documents and files is a major demand area. Main languages required are Japanese, English, Chinese, German, Korean and Spanish.

Computer Science grads with System Admin skills, students with programming/multimedia experience are usually in demand at the Multimedia Studio.

There is usually some demand for office assistance. However please note that this demand is sporadic as long term students are usually favored.

Skills such as foreign language teaching are often in demand via the Hattori Foundation's International Interchange Center (An affiliated organization) and students with teaching qualifications are often able to pick up casual work.
