These 12 studio apartments are close to the campus (Only 8 minutes walk, by bicycle only about 5 minutes). These apartments are usually restricted to students studying long term on student visas. They are also used as family accommodation if the Residence K apartments are fully booked. Each apartment is what is known in Japan as a 'one room mansion'. The furnishings are usually prepared for single occupancy, however the apartments can also be shared by 2 students to reduce the costs of housing even further.
Location: As well as being close to the campus, the apartments are also close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets and bus-stops. These apartments are also the closest to JR Okazaki Railway Station (on the main line between Tokyo and Osaka and so are the most convenient for getting out of town to see the sights of central Japan.) Coin laundry and common areas: There is a coin laundry facility next to the Yamasa Villa 3 & 4 apartments. (This has lower prices than most of the local commercial laundromats) Students living in Yamasa Villa 1 can use this laundromat as well as the recreation room (air-conditioned/heated) that students often use for group study (or as a party venue). The best place to park bicycles is under the stairwell in the center of the building. This area is safe and secure but we do advise you to chain lock the bicycle. Free car parking is available.
Telephone and Internet: There is no telephone provided inside the apartment, students will need to obtain a lease or rent a line to get connected - Yamasa will assist you if you need a telephone line installed in your apartment. Most students prefer to use the cheaper option of handheld cellular phones. There is a public telephone across the street and there is another public telephone (international calling enabled and with data jacks) at Yamasa Villa 3 & 4 (100 meters away) For internet access, purchasing or renting a PHS card for a wireless connection is usually the cheapest option.
Futons: Futons are not provided, so for bedding please browse through the futons file.
Advantages reported by students: Close to campus and route 248. Independence and privacy - your own bathroom. Convenient to have own kitchen and no need to wait. Quiet at night. Good study environment. Large amount of personal space per student.
Disadvantages reported by students: No wheelchair access. No microwave oven on site. No Gas cooking. PHS card access is reasonably fast but not as quick as the student village LAN and much more expensive. Plus you need to pay for an account, whereas the LAN access at the student village and on campus is free.
