A competitive edge.A diverse student body built upon motivated and well educated students provides a supportive learning environment. A wide range of experiences is also important as is maturity. Iqbal Thaheem started his career as a medical doctor. After teaching at medical school for 6 years he applied for a senior position in his country's diplomatic service. At the time of his application for admissions into Yamasa's Academic Intensive Japanese Program, Iqbal was a senior diplomat with the government of Pakistan, serving as that country's commercial attache in Dubai. Iqbal has 3 children, and his wife (also a medical doctor) is halfway through her specialization studies at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in London. To assist Iqbal through his studies, Yamasa's Student Services Office has been providing specialist support, and designing flexible study schedules in consultation with faculty. After graduation, Iqbal will return to a senior position in Pakistan and is hoping that his Japanese language skills and understanding of Japanese culture will give him a competitive edge when applying for a posting to Tokyo.
