Refresher Course

The Refresher Course is an ultra-flexible program that leverages Yamasa's modern ACJS facilities, the OCJS's advanced CALL Seminar Center, and semi-private lessons in Aoi Hall to provide a course that be customized in terms of:

  • Intensity - choose from a minimum of 3 to up to 6 classes per day.
  • Intensity - choose either 4 or 5 days of classes per week.
  • Length - choose from just 5 days to 60. This can be shortened or extended.
  • Content/curriculum - you can learn exactly what you need.

This is a very flexible option. You can commence on ANY weekday of the year with the exception of public holidays. You can also add additional options such as the Japan Discovery tours or weekend field trips on an on-demand basis.

This program provides several advantages over alternative short term programs such as SILAC or Acceleration Format 2. Instead of a curriculum purely focused on conversation skills, with the Refresher Program you can choose whether you wish to also improve your reading and writing skills, learn Business Japanese, and learn some Japanese computing. The maximum class size is 4 students per level, average is only 1.3 students. If studying between September-May, it is very likely that your semi-private lessons would be private. For a small surcharge, private lessons can be guaranteed, regardless of season. Private lesson curriculum is fully personalised. CALL seminars are fully personalised.

The minimum length of studies is one week/5 days (it is not necessary to start on a Monday, any weekday is fine), and the maximum length 12 weeks/60 weekdays*. The tuition is also available on a per day basis, so it is possible to make the most of your schedule - using the course to brush up or improve your Japanese during a visit to Japan, preparing for exams or interviews, or preparing for enrollment in any of Yamasa's other programs.

*Please note that classes are not available on Public Holidays. The Admissions Office will provide you with a full list of these if they affect your personalized schedule.

The program is available at any level from Beginner to Intermediate.

Student's enrolling in the program are able to make use of Yamasa's Housing office for placement. Due to seasonal demand, early application and payment is strongly recommended for summer program dates. If applying for summer, completion of enrollment is recommended before the end of March.

For short term studies, most students prefer accommodation in the modern Student Village or Homestays, although apartments are available and are recommended for couples and for students bringing families.
