Studies of 6 to 10 weeks

By Declan Murphy,
Director - International Office

The average short course student at Yamasa studies in Okazaki for about 8 weeks. However as no two students are the same or have the same needs, we have designed a range of programs so that you have greater selection and can to some extent customize your studies. These options include...

ACADEMIC:

Acceleration Program Format II - Ultra Intensive Japanese Language Studies
This ultra-intensive 28 class per week program is the shortest academic program module currently available. All 4 skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) are taught and progress is rapid. The program is best suited for beginners and people wanting to rapidly improve their grammar knowledge, reading skills and conversational proficiency. The Format 2 option is now available for 6 to 10 weeks.

CONTINUING EDUCATION (EXTENSION):

Discovery Program (Study tour)
This is an intensive Japanese communication skills/conversation program that includes 6, 8 and 10 week study length options (also 2 and 4) combined with an adventure tour (you can select a tour 3, 5, 8, 10 or 12 days in duration) that will introduce you to a wide sampling of both traditional and modern Japanese culture. The tour will also allow you to explore areas of Japan that usually can't be reached by public transport. The program is best suited for language travellers, beginners in the language or first time visitors to Japan.

SILAC - Short Intensive Language Acquisition Courses
This is an intensive Japanese communication skills/conversation program that includes 6, 8 and 10 week program lengths (plus 4 and 12). It is offered all year round and has 15 (seminar) or 23 (usual/standard) classes per week depending on your level. The program is best suited for people wanting to rapidly improve their conversational fluency.

Refresher Course
The Refresher Course is an ultra-flexible low cost program that leverages Yamasa's modern ACJS facilities, the OCJS's high tech CALL Seminar Center, and private or semi-private lessons in Aoi Hall to provide a 15 class per week course for up to 6 weeks that can be commenced on ANY weekday of the year with the exception of public holidays.

Internship Program (Experiential)
This program includes an option with 6 weeks of intensive Japanese communication skills/conversation studies followed by a 4 or 6 week internship placement in a Japanese speaking workplace. It offers the opportunity not only to put your Japanese skills into practice but also to experience Japanese culture in its most natural day-to-day routine.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are less expensive than many think, and you can START ANY DAY except on Sundays and Public Holidays. The schedule and curriculum is designed by faculty with you to provide a fully customized program.

C.A.L.L. Seminar
If you are really short of time, this seminar will provide a very flexible option. Unlike the SILAC and Discovery programs, you can START ANY DAY except on Sundays and Public Holidays and study for up to 50 days. You can also customize the program length and intensity - study from 2 to 8 hours per day. There is full transferability between CALL and other Yamasa programs - so like the Refresher Course its good way to start.
