GPA CALCULATION/ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS

When you register for the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, you will need to indicate your preference for either a GPA or Pass/Not Pass grading. If you opt for the Pass/Not Pass grading, you will not have a Grade Point Average.

Grades:
A = 4.0 Distinction
B = 3.0 Above Average Pass
C = 2.0 Average Pass, 2 credit points awarded.
Q = 1.0 Qualifying Pass, 1 credit point awarded.
F = 0.0 Fail - No points, included as attempted in GPA calculation.
W = No points - not included as attempted in GPA calculation.

Determining Your Grade Point Average

To calculate your grade point average, you simply multiply the number of credit points attempted by the grade you received, and then divide by the total number of credit points attempted.

-- For Example --

Student Mary Yamasa has these grades for the last 2 Quarters, and did a 10 week SILAC program the previous year.

SILAC. 10 Weeks         4 Credits	C
AIJP Spring Qtr 6 Credits	B
AIJP Summer Qtr 6 Credits	C

Step 1: Calculate the number of quality points earned per course.

         SILAC. 10 Weeks  4 Credits  x  2.0 (for the "C" grade) =  08.0 quality points
         AIJP Spring Qtr 6 Credits x 3.0 (for the "B" grade) = 18.0 quality points
         AIJP Summer Qtr 6 Credits x 2.0 (for the "C" grade) = 12.0 quality points

Step 2:  Add the totals

         3 courses      16 credits  38 quality points

Step 3: Divide the number of quality points by the number of credit points for the GPA

	ie Mary's grade point balance would be 38 ÷ 16 = 2.375
