(High Level Japanese Studies)
Key points:
An intensive but flexible program for learners who already have JLPT Level 2 proficiency,
a recognized equivalent level or higher.
The advanced curriculum and intensive schedule (up to 24 classes per week including 4 electives, from April 2010, 2 semi-private classes)
is designed to prepare students for professional careers requiring advanced levels of Japanese and for successful
entry into Japanese language undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Introduction: The Advanced Japanese Studies
Program (AJSP) is one of the few programs in Japan designed for advanced learners of the Japanese language.
The curriculum particularly stresses reading and oral proficiency and students commencing the program with Level 2
Proficiency are expected to reach JLPT Level 1 well before the program conclusion. Students commencing with a level
higher than JLPT Level 2 are expected to reach very high levels of proficiency.
On the right hand side of this page there are links to each feature of this program. These links are also located

Comprehensive:
In each Academic year there are 4 start dates. The program offers not just intensity,
but flexibility, with more classes and greater customization than any other APJLE accredited program.
AJSP offers an intensive schedule with more
classes than those offered by program providers in other Japanese institutes and universities.
(The APJLE regulations only require 800 classes per year for accreditation.)
Why more intensity?: The reason the Advanced program is more intensive than regulations require is a
reflection of the higher emphasis we place on quality. As with the Acceleration and AIJP programs,
we do not use rote learning - we use smaller class sizes - and we concentrate not only on
grammar/reading and writing but also effective communication - particularly listening and speaking skills.
You might only have 1 chance in your life
to commit to long term intensive studies in Japan - and Yamasa faculty understand that you need to make the most of the
opportunity when they design curriculum.
