Okazaki Castle has played crucial role in Japan's history and the making of the modern Japanese state. It was the birthplace and stronghold of Tokugawa Ieyasu - the most powerful of the Shoguns (on whom the novel/film/mini-series etc are loosely based) and is now the symbol of the city. The castle grounds contain museums and other points of interest - the castle is situated in Okazaki Park and hosts many events throughout the year. The fireworks festival is also held here. It is within bicycle distance and only 10-15 minutes away by bus.
