Location: Yamamoto House is located in a quiet residential area. As well as being the closest to the campus, the location is also close to the JR Okazaki train station, restaurants, supermarkets and bus-stops. It is only a short walk to the station (4 minutes) and only 1 minute from the nearest Post Office (ATM access for Cirrus/Plus network credit/debit cards). Clickable Location Map: Click here for location map (45488 bytes). Click the black arrows on the left of the map for route to Yamasa's campus or to navigate around the local area. Click on shops, and other features on the map for more detail. Individual room facilities: Each room has air-conditioning/heating, lockable desk, lamp, bookshelves, pipe bed, refrigerator with freezer, and TV with movable corner stand. There are racks for hanging clothes (only Hane, and the Student Village have these). Each room has a window for natural light and good curtains. Although less expensive, each room is considerably larger than the single rooms in the Student Village. In terms of usable floor space there is approximately double the amount of room. All of the rooms are western style with no tatami matting. All walls have sound insulation and while the floors look like wood they are actually made of polyester and thus easy to clean and maintain. Unlike the Student Village the common corridor is carpeted to reduce noise made from walking from rooms to the kitchen and common areas. All internal space is "no shoes", there is a large shoe rack near the entrance ("genkan") and sufficient storage space for shoes both on the racks or in the individual rooms. In each room (and in the kitchen/lounge) there is a LAN type internet connection (100mbps) using ethernet technology. You will need a short length (about 1-1.5 meters) of ethernet cable. Common facilities description: The kitchen/lounge, showers, toilets and wash basins are common areas, as is the large rooftop balcony. 1) Kitchen/Lounge: There are two deep sinks, with substantial food preparation and draining areas (stainless steel), 3 rice cookers, 2 oven toasters, 2 convection/microwave ovens, and an electric hot water urn. Cooking is gas. There are 2 gas ranges each with 2 gas jets and a grill. Each gas range has been separated from the side wall to provide more standing space for people cooking and to provide more space (stainless steel top) for ingredients. Above each grill there is an extraction fan to remove smoke which also includes a light. There is a fluorescent light directly above the sink so that there are no shadows when using knives or washing utensils. The kitchen has natural light, airconditioner/heater, and an external door (lockable) connecting to the balcony where the washing machines are located. There is a lot of storage space for cutlery, utensils, cutting boards, cooking ware etc. The shelving has been secured to the walls to ensure a safe environment during any earth tremors. There is a very large dining table with 8 chairs, and an internet connection in case students wish to use online dictionaries and other resources while studying in groups. There are 6 trash/garbage cans for recycling, the schedule for garbage disposal is every Tuesday and Friday morning. 2) Washing machines: Although there is a coin laundry close by, we have installed 2 modern washing machines (no need for coins, but you will need to buy your own washing powder or fabric softener) on the balcony adjoining the lounge. We have located the machines here to minimize noise from the machines and provide an airconditioned/heated folding area. There are clotheslines and hanging areas adjacent to the machines. 3) Shower rooms: There are 2 shower rooms, ensuring a better ratio of residents to showers than Villa 2 and the Student Village. Each shower room has a private lockable changing area with mirror, shelf and 2 100V power outlets. To prevent water flowing from the shower room to the changing area, the floor of the shower is 8 centimeters lower. The height of the shower head can be adjusted, there is an extraction fan for steam, and small hanging rail for washcloths. The light switch is on the inside of the lockable door so that no one can accidently turn the light off while you are inside, and there is a small window for light in the door so that residents can easily know when a shower room is in use.
4) Toilets, wash basins: There are 3 toilets, again ensuring a better ratio of residents to showers than Villa 2
and the Student Village. The toilets are western style with heated toilet seats (popular in winter), Yamamoto House
is the only student accommodation with these at the time of completion. Each toilet has a
water tap for hand washing and each room has a small rack for hand towels (you need to bring your own towel). 5) Security: There are sensors lamp at each entrance which are locked, the individual rooms are also lockable (separate keys to the main entrance). All windows are on the 2nd floor and lockable. The building is two stories, but with all 11 rooms on the same floor. 6) Rooftop Balcony: The building has a very large rooftop balcony about the size of a tennis court with excellent views of the city and local area. A good place for watching the summer fireworks. The surface is concrete, a barbecue can be borrowed from the campus bar provided at least 1 weeks notice is requested. 7) Bicycle Parking: The bicycle parking area is located directly beside the entrance and is covered to protect from rain. There is another sensor light so that you can see when locking/unlocking your bicycle. Futons: Futons are not provided, so for bedding please browse through the futons file. Telephone and Internet: All students living here have internet access via a fast fiber-optic LAN. The cost is included in the rent. Technical support is available from the International Office if you have connectivity issues. There is no telephone provided inside the building, students will need to obtain a cellphone or use computer-to-phone software using the internet connection. There is a public telephone nearby at the Family Mart convenience store (3 minutes walk, same street as Post Office). Photogallery: (Click on photos to enlarge)
