Fees and Costs: All fees are denominated in Japanese Yen. Program fees include all tuition, textbooks & learning materials. The program fee does not include: apartment or accommodation fees, transport from airport to Yamasa (unless you use the airport limousine bus, in which case Yamasa will reimburse you for the 1700 yen fare in full), transport between accommodation and Yamasa, travel insurance, air fares to/from Japan etc. An itemized invoice and receipt is issued to all customers. Completion of fee payment is due no later than 35 days prior to commencement. There is a late fee of 10500 yen for payments made less than 35 days prior to commencement.

Format 4 - JBPP On Demand

The JBPP is available on demand, either on campus in Okazaki or off-site. The on-campus tuition is below and includes private lessons, for the full time intensive 25 lessons per week structure. If your company or organization wishes to enroll more than 1 customer, then a lower unit fee can be provided via quotation. The fee for off-campus delivery is available on a quotation basis. Levels: You will learn expressions and basic information through a custom designed original textbook series using small group seminar style lessons, followed by practice sessions using various resources. As you advance through the curriculum, the materials covered in the lessons become progressively more advanced.

Entry Requirements: This course specializes in the language used in Japanese business and professional environments, and participants will need to have a high level of motivation. The program is aimed at learners who are interested in working in Japanese companies or organizations, or in working in environments with Japanese speaking people.

As an absolute minimum:

1) All participants should be aged 18 years and over at time of commencement. Applicants under the age of 18 will not be accepted. For Format 1, priority will be given to applicants with a degree and/or those with some business experience or background.

2) This is course specifically designed for learners who are at intermediate level and above.

a) All participants should have finished learning the equivalent of the Minna no Nihongo 1 & 2 series texts. This means the participants should have already learned Keigo (Honorific language), and have passed or be at the equivalent level of Japanese Language Proficiency Test N4 (old Level 3) or higher.

b) It is necessary to pass Yamasa's online test and online listening test for the JBPP.

As a minimum, you need a score of 75% correct or higher for JBPP entry. If your score is between 60% and 74%, we recommend that you to take the preparation & review class (called the yobi course) to revise and review your beginner level grammar and keigo quickly. After taking the online tests, you will be emailed advice from the JBPP instructors.

3) Level check test is conducted the day before the commencement of class. Applicants who are unable to make the grade would be able to transfer into alternative programs.

4) It is not a pre-requisite but it is helpful if you have some experience of using computers and the internet. You do not need to bring a computer with you, but may find it useful to do so.

5) Citizens of certain countries will need to find guarantors. Please check the Visa Requirements section to see if this applies to you.

Visas: Unless you have a Japanese passport, you will need a valid visa.

Participants who are not residents of Japan may enroll in the program using a tourist (tanki-taizai) visa. For many nationalities, a 90 day landing permit will be granted automatically upon arrival in Japan. This is called an exemption agreement. For other nationalities, you may need to apply for the visa. Please see the visa requirements section for details. Please note that for most nationalities the maximum period of stay for a short-stay (tourist) visa is 90 days/3 months.

Other Visas

If you have a ryugakusei visa and would like to study at Yamasa during your summer holiday for example it is no problem to study in this program. However, if you have a student visa issued from Yamasa, then you are only able to study in Format 3, while also enrolled in the AIJP/AJSP programs.

Other visa possibilities include the working holiday visa, students with Japanese ancestry, cultural activities visa, work visas, family visa etc. If you have a student visa or any visa other than the standard Tourist/Short Stay (tanki-taizai) Visa, please inform the Admissions Office as soon as possible.

Citizens of certain countries will need to find guarantors. The visa requirements section has further detail and appropriate links to the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs sites.

Applications: All applications can be completed online. The enrolment procedure differs slightly depending on whether you require a guarantor. If at any stage you do not know what to do next, or if you have any questions concerning either the enrollment process or the Institute and its programs, please contact Admissions.

How to enroll:

1. Check visa requirements, especially the information regarding guarantors.
2. Complete the Online Application form. Print/save the confirmation page.
3. Send your photographs.
4. Confirm your position in the program via program fee transfer (as provided via invoice)
5. Yamasa will send you your Letter of Acceptance and additional documents.
6. If you need to apply for a visa, contact your nearest Japanese diplomatic office.
7. Purchase a return ticket to Japan and inform Yamasa of the arrival details. (Pickup service is available for Nagoya Airport only)

Deadlines: Applications will be processed on a rolling basis, with applications closing either when the program is fully subscribed, or at the close of business hours 35 days prior to commencement. If program space is available after the 35 day deadline, a maximum of 4 further applications may be accepted with a late fee of 10500 yen. After you complete the Online Application, you will need to submit 1 passport photograph (by email attachment). Once your application and photos have been received and confirmed, Yamasa will require you to confirm your place by transferring the program fee. If you need to apply for a visa, please note that the Letter of Acceptance cannot be issued until receipt of Program Fees has been confirmed. This is the letter that you show Embassy/Consular staff when applying for the visa. If you do not need to apply for the visa, then it is the document you show Immigration as you enter the country.
