Please print this file and bring a copy of it with you to Japan.

Thank you for registering your arrival details with us.

This file explains how to get from the airport to JR Okazaki station using the airport bus. We will give you the bus fare in full when you reach JR Okazaki (or Yamasa). You have received this file because you selected "No" for the "Do you require an airport pickup?" question in your arrival registration form. If you change your mind, just complete the form again and pay the fee using a visa card or mastercard.

A few important things:

Note 1: If when you arrive you need urgent medical attention, please note that there is a clinic located at the end of the arrivals hall near the domestic arrivals gate. English and other languages are understood by the clinic staff. The clinic is run by Fujita Health University, there is also a dental clinic next door.

Note 2: We strongly advise bringing some Japanese yen in cash with you to Japan. Foreign currencies can not be used for purchases, credit cards cannot be used for the airport bus or other public transport. A minimum of 10,000 yen is advised. If it is not possible to bring yen, bring some cash (and or travellers checks/cheques) with you. Major currencies such as the Euro or US dollar are easily exchanged at the airport (see Note 3 below).

Note 3: If you will be arriving without any Japanese cash, you can change cash or travellers cheques/checks at the UFJ Bank's exchange booth next to the international arrivals gate. The exchange rate is pretty reasonable and much the same as everywhere else. You should change at a minimum, the equivalent of 10,000 Japanese yen. If you need to make a cash withdrawal, use the ATM about 20 meters (65 feet) from the money exchange booth. Please note that not all cards will be accepted by the machines, though those that are part of the Cirrus/Plus network are OK.

Note 4: If you are arriving at night, and will need to use an ATM to obtain Japanese cash, then please click here and print the ATM Machine location file.

How to get to the bus stop. To get from the arrivals hall to the bus stop you need to use the ramp (there is also a moving footway) that connects the center of the Arrivals Hall with an area called "Access Plaza". There are 2 ramps leading to "Access Plaza" from the center of the Arrivals Hall where the Steiner Cafe is located - you can use either ramp.

When you reach the top of the ramp (or moving footway), turn right. There is a convenience store called "Sunkus". Next to the convenience store is an escalator leading down to the bus stop. If you have a lot of luggage and need to use a luggage cart, please use the elevator (lift) near the entrance of the convenience store (about 10 meters/33 feet from the top of the escalator/stairs). When you descend to the street level, look for bus stop #4. All of the buses to Okazaki leave from Bus stop #4. It should be within 10 meters (35 feet) of your location as you come off the escalator or out of the elevator. The bus station is covered so you don't need umbrellas etc. In winter it may be cold.

Buying a ticket.

If you have 10 minutes or more to spare, you might as well buy the bus ticket. The tickets are 1700 yen. You can buy these from the machine located about 5 meters (15 feet) from bus stop #4. The machine has an optional English language interface and there is also usually an attendant available to assist. The machine will accept all Japanese notes from 1000 to 10000 yen and gives change. Don't worry if there isn't enough time to buy a ticket because - you can also pay on the bus, so if you are short of time just get on board the bus.

Which bus do I get on?

The services departing from bus stop #4 go to several different destinations (Okazaki City, Akaike Town, Toyota City, Toyohashi City etc) so you need to make sure you board the correct one. The indicator board at bus stop number #4 is in both Japanese and English. Any bus leaving for Okazaki will be clearly marked. Confirm that the next bus is to Okazaki. The buses are very punctual and usually leave exactly on time.

Getting on the bus.

When the bus to Okazaki arrives at bus stop #4, the staff will open up the doors to the luggage bays that are located below the bus. Heavy luggage should be placed in here. Please push your luggage at least 1 meter/yard inside the luggage bay. Do not put any valuables (computer, camera etc) underneath the bus. You can take these inside with you and store them in the overhead racks, the floor at your seat or on spare seats. When you get on the bus, just take a seat. You don't need to use your ticket or pay until the end of the trip. The bus uses the expressway linking the airport island with Tokoname, and makes its way through Toyota City (you can see some of the Toyota Motor Company factories on the way) before entering Okazaki.

There are several stops in Okazaki. Stay on the bus until it reaches the final stop, which is JR Okazaki Station. All of the announcements on the bus are bilingual Japanese/English. When you reach JR Okazaki, place either 1700 yen in Japanese cash, or the ticket you purchased for 1700 yen at the bus stop at the airport, into the plastic slot to the immediate left of the bus driver.

When the bus reaches JR Okazaki station, please give Yamasa a telephone call if you have not already done so. The number is 0564-55-8111 (8:30am to 18:30pm) or call Declan Murphy on 090-8868-8210 (after 18:30pm) from the public telephones near the taxi rank/stand. The telephones are just to the side of the staircase and escalator. There are public toilets about 10 meters from the telephones, however please be very careful with your luggage.

If our staff members are not waiting for you when you get off the bus, please wait for the 5-10 minutes it will take them to reach you. The areas next to the taxi stand have several shelters you can use to keep out of the rain or sun. Our staff will meet you and drive you to your accommodation or homestay family.
